Yemeni Forces Target Saudi Aramco Facilities, Air Base in Retaliatory Operation

08 September, 2026 16:26

Yemeni armed forces have launched a large-scale military operation targeting Saudi Aramco oil facilities and a military airbase in southern Saudi Arabia, describing the strikes as retaliation for an intensive three-day Saudi bombing campaign against Yemen. In a statement on Tuesday, Yemeni armed forces spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree said dozens of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles targeted Aramco facilities in Abha, Najran and Jizan, as well as the King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait. Saree described the attacks as “precise and direct” and claimed they inflicted significant damage on the targeted sites.

The operation followed what Yemeni authorities said were 121 Saudi airstrikes against several Yemeni provinces over a 72-hour period, including Ma’rib, Al-Bayda, Al-Hudaydah, Taiz and Al-Jawf. Yemeni officials said the campaign represented a major escalation, with the attacks reportedly hitting multiple locations across the country.

The deadliest reported strike targeted a central prison in Al-Hazm district of Al-Jawf province. According to Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population, the attack killed seven people, including six inmates and a child who was visiting the prison, while seven others were wounded, including a female visitor. Search-and-rescue operations were reportedly continuing at the site as authorities assessed the full extent of the casualties and damage.
