Surjani Town Family Murder: FIR Registered as Police Begin Probe

KARACHI: A tragic incident in Karachi’s Surjani Town has left four members of a family dead after a woman and her three young children were found murdered inside their home.

The victims were identified as 34-year-old Mehwish and her three children — six-year-old Hira, five-year-old Haneen and 18-month-old Ashmeera.

Police said the victims appeared to have been killed with a sharp-edged weapon or a heavy object. The weapon allegedly used in the killings has not yet been recovered.

Husband and Neighbours Questioned

Police have collected evidence from the crime scene and expanded the investigation, while CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area is also being obtained and reviewed.

SSP West Tariq Ilahi Mastoee said the house had only one main entrance and there was no other apparent route for entering or leaving the property.

Police have detained the victim’s husband Danish and some neighbours for questioning as part of the investigation.

According to police, Danish told investigators that he worked as an electrician at a private mall.

He said he had gone to drop off his employer and later tried to contact his family by phone, but nobody answered.

When he returned home, he said the door was not opened. He then used a key to enter the house and found the bodies of his wife and children inside.

Case Registered Under Section 302

A murder case has been registered over the deaths of the woman and her three children.

According to the FIR, the case was registered on the complaint of Mehwish’s father-in-law, Muhammad Yamin, under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR states that Yamin’s son had married Mehwish around 12 years ago.

According to the complainant, Mehwish called him at around 4:30pm, asking him to send her a bisi. He told her that he would send it.

The FIR says Yamin later received a call from his son at around 7:15pm, during which he said, “I am ruined.”

He was reportedly told over the phone that his wife and two children had been killed.

The FIR further states that the youngest daughter, Ashmeera, was found injured and that Yamin immediately went to the house after receiving the information.

The child was taken to hospital but died during treatment later that night.

Yamin told police that an unidentified person had killed his daughter-in-law, grandson and granddaughters.

Sindh Government Takes Notice

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Sindh Home Minister have taken notice of the incident and sought reports from police authorities.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the killings, including the timeline of events, the movements of people connected to the household, forensic evidence and CCTV footage.

Police have yet to identify the perpetrator or establish a motive for the killings.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to determine whether the victims were targeted by someone known to the family or whether the incident involved an external intruder.
