Mir Raza Case: Judicial Commission Questions Waflix Manager Shehryar

KARACHI: The judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza case summoned Waflix manager Shehryar and questioned him about his employment, business dealings and interactions with Mir Raza.

During the hearing, the commission asked Shehryar how long he had been working at Waflix.

Shehryar said he had been working there for approximately two years.

Justice Umar Sial asked Shehryar about Mir Raza’s behaviour.

Shehryar said Mir Raza treated everyone very well and considered him like a younger brother.

The commission also questioned whether Shehryar had been facing financial difficulties in his own business.

He responded that sales had been down for the previous two to three months, but said there had been no major financial issue.

Shehryar also told the commission that he had never noticed Mir Raza appearing particularly worried or distressed.

The commission asked Shehryar whether he had ever seen Muhammad Umair Khan, who was identified as an accountant.

Shehryar said he had not seen Umair.

The commission also asked whether Shehryar was working part-time and whether he received his salary on time.

He said his salary had been delayed for the previous two to three months.

Shehryar said that after Mir Raza’s death, he contacted Ahmed Bharde by message and received Rs10,000 payments on two occasions.

When the commission questioned why he had contacted someone for money shortly after Mir Raza’s death, Shehryar explained that he lived in a rented house and needed money to pay his rent.

The commission asked Shehryar who had questioned him during the investigation.

He said he believed the person was named Waseem, describing him as a man wearing a kurta and glasses.

Shehryar also explained that he had attended the Chehlum of Imam Hussain after Maghrib on the relevant day.

Shehryar said he received a call from a woman named Nida from the police station on August 3, asking him to appear for questioning.

During the hearing, advocate Jibran Nasir clarified that Nida was an SP posted at Ferozabad Police Station and had no connection with the investigation.

Shehryar said he was made to wait for around three hours, after which he was questioned for approximately one and a half hours.

Asked about the nature of the questions, Shehryar said investigators questioned him about Waflix and Mir Raza’s family.

He said questions were also asked about the separation of Mir Raza’s uncle and aunt.

Shehryar alleged that investigators shouted at him during questioning and repeatedly told him not to lie.

The commission also questioned Shehryar over what it described as inconsistencies between information he had provided to the police and his statements before the commission.

He was asked whether daily sales at Waflix had previously been around Rs100,000 but had subsequently declined to approximately Rs75,000.

Shehryar confirmed that the figures were accurate.
