Iran to Reveal More Details of US Losses in War, Abbas Araghchi Says

TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran will release further details of what it describes as US military losses during the ongoing war, calling a recent US Department of Defense report only “the tip of the iceberg.”

In a post on X, Araghchi rejected suggestions that Iran was unable to defend itself and said the country had inflicted significant damage on US military assets during the conflict.

Referring to the recent Pentagon Inspector General’s report, Araghchi claimed that hundreds of US military positions were damaged or destroyed during the war and that dozens of American aircraft were also affected.

The figures cited by Araghchi are Iranian claims and have not been independently verified in full.

He said the information currently available about American losses represented only a small part of the overall picture and that Iran would publish additional details at an appropriate time.

Araghchi’s comments came after a report by the US Department of Defense Inspector General examined the military and financial impact of the conflict.

According to the report, the United States spent approximately $33.4 billion on the war between February 28 and June 30, while around $22.3 billion worth of munitions were used during military operations.

The assessment also documented damage to US military facilities across several countries in the Gulf and wider region.

According to the report, Iranian attacks damaged hundreds of buildings and other facilities at American positions, while a number of US aircraft and drones were destroyed or damaged.

Araghchi accused Washington of presenting an incomplete picture of the conflict and said further Iranian disclosures would provide additional information about the extent of US losses.

He argued that the idea that Iran had been left defenceless was incorrect and maintained that Iranian forces had demonstrated their ability to strike American military assets across the region.

The Iranian foreign minister said the full details would be released later, suggesting Tehran intends to use additional evidence to challenge the US account of the conflict.

Araghchi concluded that information not yet made public would present a different picture of the scale of the fighting and its consequences for US forces.

The competing accounts reflect the continuing information battle between Tehran and Washington over military losses, the effectiveness of air defences and the overall outcome of the conflict.

The Pentagon’s assessment provides documented figures for US spending, weapons expenditure and reported damage, while Iran says additional information on American losses will be made public in due course.
