Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Global Peace on International Day of Peace

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to international peace and security, calling for dialogue, diplomacy and adherence to the UN Charter as the means to achieve sustainable peace.

In his message on the International Day of Peace on September 21, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar said Pakistan remained committed to an effective and inclusive multilateral order with the United Nations at its centre.

Dar said the occasion served as an important reminder that dialogue, diplomacy and respect for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter were essential for achieving lasting peace.

Pakistan called on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities by upholding the UN Charter, respecting international law and pursuing just and lasting settlements of disputes through peaceful means.

Dar highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding role in UN peacekeeping, saying the country remained committed to maintaining international peace and security.

He said Pakistan continued to advocate a comprehensive approach to preventing and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

Dar said Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives in support of the peaceful settlement of disputes, including its mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, reflected the country’s commitment to diplomacy.

He also highlighted UN Security Council Resolution 2788, which was sponsored by Pakistan during its presidency of the Security Council in July 2025 and was adopted unanimously.

The resolution calls on states to make greater use of peaceful mechanisms under the UN Charter, including negotiation, mediation, conciliation, arbitration and judicial settlement.

Pakistan maintained that unresolved disputes continue to contribute to regional and international insecurity.

Dar said durable peace could not be achieved when the right of peoples to self-determination was denied or when UN Security Council resolutions remained unimplemented.

He specifically referred to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, describing them as examples of situations involving prolonged foreign occupation and unresolved disputes.

Dar said Pakistan remained ready to serve as a trusted partner in advancing shared international commitments towards a peaceful and prosperous world.

The message comes as Pakistan continues to emphasise multilateral diplomacy, peaceful dispute resolution and the role of the United Nations in addressing international conflicts. Pakistan has also continued to highlight its role in diplomatic efforts concerning the Iran-US conflict.
