King Charles Reacts to Claims in Earl Spencer’s New Diana Memoir

Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, is set to release his new book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, which has already attracted a response from King Charles ahead of its publication.

Several claims from the memoir have been published before its release. Among them, Spencer alleges that Diana’s former husband appeared “giddily elated” after hearing about her death. He also claims that Charles told him, “Rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough,” before Diana’s funeral.

King Charles’ spokesperson said, the Palace does not normally comment on books However, the statement added that His Majesty understands that grief between family members can affect judgment, memory and the way events are remembered, even many years after a loss.

Speaking about the King’s response, Seward said she had never heard such a statement from him before. She suggested that Charles felt strongly about the claims and had considered the possible impact of responding publicly.

Seward also said the Palace appeared to have issued the statement quickly because the allegations were serious and could cause further emotional pain for those involved.
