Pezeshkian to Attend UN General Assembly in New York

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to New York on Tuesday to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, his office announced. According to Habibollah Abbasi, director general of public relations at the president’s office, Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Wednesday and hold meetings with several heads of state and senior officials attending the session.

During his visit, Pezeshkian is also expected to meet prominent Iranians living in the United States and engage with American intellectuals and think tanks. A high-level Iranian delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, will accompany the president. Abbasi criticized Washington’s refusal to issue visas to some members of the delegation, including media personnel, describing the move as an “unprecedented hostile” action.

The 81st UN General Assembly session begins Tuesday at the UN headquarters in New York under the theme of restoring trust among nations. Pezeshkian’s visit comes amid continuing tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel following the latest escalation in hostilities. Earlier this week, the Iranian president said Tehran was prepared to resolve differences with neighboring countries through dialogue and mutual respect, while accusing Washington and Tel Aviv of seeking to maintain regional tensions.
