Punjab imposes Section 144, seeks Rangers ahead of PTI protest

LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province until October 5, with immediate effect, according to a notification issued by the provincial authorities.

Under the order, gatherings of five or more people have been prohibited at public places across Punjab.

The notification also bans carrying and displaying all types of weapons at public places.

The provincial government has also imposed a ban on public meetings, processions, rallies, sit-ins and demonstrations across Punjab under Section 144.

However, the restrictions will not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, burials and activities at places of worship.

Courts, government institutions and events held with formal permission have also been exempted from the restrictions.

The Punjab Home Department said the Section 144 order has been enforced with immediate effect and will remain in place until October 5.
