Iran Warns War Could Spread to Indian Ocean if US or Israel Attacks Again

TEHRAN: Senior Iranian military adviser Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi has warned that the ongoing Middle East conflict could expand to the Indian Ocean if the United States or Israel launches another attack against Iran.

Safavi, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, said Iranian forces had prepared for a range of possible scenarios in the event of renewed attacks.

In a video released by Iran’s Fars news agency, he said the conflict had already extended from the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea and could potentially spread further.

Iran Warns of Wider Regional Conflict

Safavi said a new escalation could open an additional front in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab area and potentially extend toward the Indian Ocean or beyond.

He did not provide specific details about what military actions Iran might undertake in the Indian Ocean.

The warning comes amid continuing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, all of which are important maritime routes for international trade and energy supplies.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

Safavi’s warning comes as diplomatic efforts to end the US-Iran conflict continue.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran remains interested in reaching an agreement with Washington, while US and Iranian negotiators have been exploring possible phased arrangements involving the Strait of Hormuz and economic restrictions.

The contrasting messages — warnings of wider military escalation alongside continued references to negotiations — underscore the uncertainty surrounding the next phase of the conflict.
