AFF Claims Seizing Taliban Checkpoints During Clashes in Afghanistan’s Nuristan

KABUL: The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) claimed to have captured several Taliban checkpoints during clashes with Taliban forces in Nuristan province on Saturday.

In parts of Kamdesh district fighting began early Saturday and was still continuing reported by AFF. A resident of the area also reported hearing sounds of fighting.

According to the Front, Taliban forces launched an early-morning attack on its places using drones. The AFF claimed that its fighters under attack a number of of the drones beforehand launching a counter-attack.

The group more claimed that its forces seized some Taliban checkpoints for the duration of the fighting. It said Taliban fighters later extracted from the Arandu area and parts of Kamdesh district headed for Nari district in neighbouring Kunar province.

Meanwhile, Taliban-linked media outlet HIJAZ Persian said an alleged plot had been uncovered and thwarted in Kamdesh district. The media outlet claimed that dozens of fighters from the armed group were killed wounded or captured in the clashes although it did not provide further details.

No official statement has so far been issued by the Taliban concerning the reported clashes and the claims made by either side.

The reports of casualties and territorial gains could not be independently verified.
