Araghchi: Iran Has Exhausted Diplomatic Efforts to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran has made extensive diplomatic efforts to establish conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that no one can accuse Iran of ignoring the diplomatic path. Speaking to Iranian journalists in New York, Araghchi said his meetings, alongside President Masoud Pezeshkian’s engagements on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, focused largely on explaining and defending Iran’s conditions for reopening the strategic waterway.

Araghchi said Iran’s National Security Council had established specific conditions that Tehran was required to clearly communicate and defend. He revealed that Iran had presented several proposals during diplomatic meetings and media engagements, with intermediaries subsequently conveying the proposals to Washington. He also criticized what he described as contradictory messages from US President Donald Trump, saying Tehran would make its decision after receiving a clear response through the mediators.

The Iranian foreign minister said the Iranian people had demonstrated their strength in military, diplomatic and economic spheres, including in confronting sanctions. He maintained that Tehran sees a negotiated settlement as the path forward, provided it is based on what he described as dignity, justice and respect for the legitimate rights and demands of the Iranian people.
