Mir Raza Ali Case: Judicial Commission’s Term Ends, Proceedings Adjourned Until October 2

KARACHI: The term of the judicial commission formed by the Sindh government to conduct an impartial and transparent investigation into the killing of Mir Raza Ali has expired, with further proceedings adjourned until October 2.

The commission, headed by Justice Umar Sial, issued a written order stating that its term expired on Tuesday.

The commission had earlier sent a request to the Sindh government seeking an extension of its term until October 15.

Extension Awaiting Sindh Cabinet Decision

According to the written order, the Sindh government’s focal person informed the commission that the summary seeking an extension had been approved by the chief minister.

The chief minister subsequently forwarded the summary to the Sindh Cabinet for a final decision.

The cabinet meeting is expected to take place on October 1, following which the commission will determine its next course of action.

Further Proceedings Depend on Extension

The commission said it was appropriate to adjourn proceedings until October 2 in view of the pending cabinet decision.

The order stated that if the Sindh Cabinet does not approve an extension, the commission will not summon any further witnesses.

In that case, the commission will prepare and submit its report at the earliest possible date on the basis of statements and evidence already recorded.

However, if the cabinet approves an extension, fresh notices will be issued to witnesses for further proceedings.

The commission will also send questionnaires to three senior police officers as part of the extended proceedings.

The next developments will therefore depend on the Sindh Cabinet’s decision on extending the commission’s mandate.
