Pakistan-Russia Relations Moving in Positive Direction: Ambassador

MOSCOW: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niaz Tirmizi attended the MGIMO International Business Trends Forum 2026 in Moscow.

Speaking at the forum, Tirmizi said relations between Pakistan and Russia were moving in a positive direction. He said new global trade trends were emerging as new centres of power developed around the world.

The ambassador stressed the importance of stronger partnerships and regional connectivity amid changing global conditions. He said visa facilities, direct air links and better logistics were important for increasing trade between Pakistan and Russia.

Tirmizi said regional organisations such as the SCO, D-8, SAARC and ECO could play an important role in promoting economic cooperation, trade and transport links.

He said Pakistan’s geographical location provides important land and sea routes connecting Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East.

The ambassador also highlighted Pakistan’s young population, saying around 68% of the country’s population is under the age of 30. He said this young population is both a major strength and an important responsibility for Pakistan.

Tirmizi said bringing businesses and scientific institutions closer together was necessary for sustainable economic growth and innovation.

He also noted that high-level contacts between Pakistan and Russia were increasing. He said the Russian interior minister’s planned visit to Pakistan in October was another sign of growing ties between the two countries.

During the forum, Tirmizi also met ambassadors from different countries, Russian business and academic representatives, and students of MGIMO.
