IRGC: US Forces Did Not Respond to Iranian Actions in Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says the United States has not responded to recent Iranian actions against vessels accused of violating transit regulations in the Strait of Hormuz. IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said in a televised address on Wednesday that Iranian forces had taken action against several vessels attempting to pass through the strategic waterway over the previous 24 hours, while the passage of some smaller vessels had also been prevented.

Mohebbi said US forces did not respond to the Iranian actions, claiming that Washington no longer possesses the military capacity to conduct operations in the region on the scale it previously could. He said the United States had initially underestimated Iran’s ability to withstand military pressure but had subsequently gained a clearer understanding of the Islamic Republic’s military capabilities. According to the IRGC spokesman, Washington had believed that its regional military presence and weapons systems would be sufficient to pressure Tehran into surrendering.

The IRGC spokesman further claimed that US forces had suffered significant attrition and that America’s military presence in the region had declined during the conflict. He said the number of US military bases in the region had fallen by roughly half, while weapons, launch systems and other military equipment had sustained substantial damage. The claims were presented by the IRGC as evidence of a changing regional military balance, although independent verification of the reported losses and the exact number of affected US bases was not provided in the statement.
