Amin Mirzazadeh Retains Asian Games Wrestling Title with Gold for Iran

Iranian wrestler Amin Mirzazadeh successfully defended his Asian Games Greco-Roman 130kg title, defeating Uzbekistan’s Rafael Tsitsuashvili 3-1 in the final at the Inae Sports Center on Wednesday. The victory secured Iran’s first wrestling medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Games and its 11th gold medal of the competition.

The 28-year-old Mirzazadeh received a first-round bye before defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Murat Botoev 7-0 in the quarterfinals. He then overcame China’s Meng Lingzhe in a closely contested semifinal, winning 1-1 after scoring the first point. Mirzazadeh is a two-time world champion, four-time Asian champion and 2024 Paris Olympic bronze medalist. Earlier this year, he also defeated Tsitsuashvili 9-0 in the final of the 2026 Asian Championships in Bishkek.

Speaking after his victory, Mirzazadeh thanked God for the gold medal and expressed hope that his success would inspire further victories for Iran’s wrestling team. The Nagoya triumph marked his second consecutive Asian Games title following his victory at the Hangzhou Games. Iran will continue its wrestling campaign on Thursday as the remaining Greco-Roman weight classes take to the mat. The Iranian delegation currently has 11 gold, 16 silver and 12 bronze medals, placing it sixth in the overall medal standings.
