President, Prime Minister Hold Key Meeting as Fuel Relief Scheme Reviewed

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held an important meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad, with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, Farooq H. Naek, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Information Minister Atta Tarar also attending, according to sources. The meeting covered political, administrative and other matters of national importance.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on progress under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme. The scheme provides fuel subsidies to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engines up to 800cc, with the government reiterating its commitment to providing relief to the middle and lower-income segments amid rising petroleum costs. More than 7.5 million citizens have reportedly benefited from the scheme.
The prime minister appreciated the performance of the government team and relevant federal and provincial authorities in implementing the initiative, describing the scheme as an example of coordinated institutional efforts. He also directed that the database developed for the subsidy programme be maintained as a reliable resource that could be used in future initiatives aimed at supporting citizens.
