Sindh Government Allocates Rs5 Billion to Activate Karachi’s TP-1 Sewage Treatment Plant

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has said the activation of Treatment Plant-1 (TP-1) marks a major development in Karachi’s sewage management system. He said the plant’s treatment capacity will be increased from 51 million to 100 million gallons per day, while the Sindh government has allocated Rs5 billion for its immediate operationalisation.
Memon said the S-III project includes approximately 56 kilometres of trunk sewers in Lyari and Malir, which will transport sewage to treatment plants for processing. He said the project is aimed at protecting Karachi’s environment and public health, while treated wastewater can be used for industrial purposes, reducing pressure on freshwater resources.
Speaking at an event in Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said providing healthcare facilities to patients is the government’s responsibility and stressed the need to translate scientific advancement and research into improved medical outcomes. He said the provincial government had undertaken several initiatives for public welfare and would continue practical measures to improve basic services for Karachi’s residents.
