Pezeshkian Says Regional Diplomacy Should Prevent Tensions and Resolve Crises
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said regional diplomacy should go beyond holding meetings and serve as an effective way to resolve crises, continue dialogue, prevent rising tensions and promote practical cooperation.
Pezeshkian made the remarks in a post on X during the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Turkmenistan. He also proposed creating a new format called “CIS Plus Iran” to strengthen cooperation between Iran and member countries of the organisation.
According to Iranian media, Pezeshkian returned to Tehran after attending the summit.
In recent weeks, the Iranian president has repeatedly stressed that regional crises should be resolved through dialogue and that regional security should be ensured through cooperation among neighbouring countries.
His remarks come as Iran and the United States have exchanged proposals in recent weeks aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, regional officials are holding consultations to reduce tensions in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea and maintain maritime traffic.
