Iran Ready for Talks While Prepared to Defend Itself, Says Deputy FM

Iran remains open to diplomatic efforts but is fully prepared to defend itself, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi has said.

Speaking to Al Arabiya on Monday night, Gharibabadi said Iran was finalizing its response to the US comments on a proposal Tehran presented in New York.

He said Iran would share its final position through mediators after consultations. “Tehran remains ready for diplomacy, provided that what is raised is realistic,” Gharibabadi said.

He stressed that Iran has always welcomed dialogue with all parties. However, he said the country was equally prepared to defend itself and fight if necessary.

Gharibabadi said Iran’s continued participation in talks showed its willingness to pursue diplomacy. He added that the United States must fulfill its commitments.

He emphasized that Iran had not violated its obligations and accused Washington of failing to honor its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

“As long as the American side has completely disregarded all of its commitments, Iran cannot be expected to show further flexibility,” he said.

His remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States. Iranian officials have said that progress in negotiations depends on the US fulfilling its commitments and taking a realistic approach.
