Babar Azam reappointed Pakistan captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reappointed star batter Babar Azam as national team’s captain for T20I and one-day internationals (ODIs).

The Pakistan Cricket Board announced the much-awaited decision today.

Earlier in November, Babar Azam had ended his years-long stint as captain after he stepped down as skipper of the national side.

Shaheen took over T20I captaincy from Babar back in November and on his first assignment against New Zealand, Pakistan suffered a 4-1 defeat in T20Is.

His captaincy again came under scrutiny after defending HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Lahore Qalanders were dumped out from the tournament after six defeats in a row.

They only managed to win one game during the tournament.

On the other hand, Babar Azam was impressive with the bat as well as the leader of Peshawar Zalmi, who reached eliminators of the tournament. He finished as the top runs getter in the tournament with 559.

His performance not only impressed selectors but put him back in a strong position for the post.

Mohammad Rizwan was the other candidate for the role, however, he reportedly declined the offer.
