Academic Qualifications

Abbas entered the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in 1987 as part of the 40 Regular Course. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Physics, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Management. Furthering his education, he obtained Master’s degrees in International Affairs and Diplomacy, and in Political Economy and Development Studies — qualifications that underscore his commitment to both intellectual and strategic advancement.

Commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in September 1993, Rear Admiral Abbas has accumulated extensive operational, command, and administrative experience within the Nigerian Navy.

He has served on several naval vessels, including NNS ARADU, NNS DAMISA, and NNS AYAM, where he held the position of Watch-Keeping Officer. His leadership extended to commanding the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory, demonstrating his tactical competence and command acumen.

Rear Admiral Abbas has occupied numerous high-level roles pivotal to the Navy’s operational and strategic framework. These include:

• Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Central Naval Command, Yenagoa, where he successfully coordinated anti-crude oil theft and anti-piracy missions in the Niger Delta region.
