The Chevening community is mourning the loss of Sakhawat Ali, a scholar from South Punjab, Pakistan, who recently passed away following a brave battle with cancer. The British High Commission in Pakistan remembered him for his “incredible strength” in the face of illness.

In a tweet expressing condolences, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott stated: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sakhawat Ali, our Chevening scholar.”

Sakhawat’s journey was marked by resilience and transparency. Through detailed social media posts, he documented the hardships of his cancer treatment, giving followers a candid insight into his daily struggles. “Back in the chemo chair today,” he wrote, detailing the side effects of Oxaliplatin, including cold sensitivity, numbness, fatigue, metallic taste, nausea, and muscle stiffness.

Last September, Sakhawat moved to the United Kingdom to pursue a degree in Energy and Sustainability: Energy, Resources and Climate Change at the University of Southampton. Despite the physical and emotional challenges, he remained determined. “It’s tough, but I’m staying steady and focused on getting through this cycle one day at a time,” he shared. “I’ve lost some weight and the pain comes and goes, but I’m still here, still fighting, and still grateful for the love you all keep sending my way. Your prayers and messages honestly keep me grounded.”

He also openly acknowledged his anxieties, noting, “My heart is racing but I am keep reminding myself that eventually everything will be alright.” Sakhawat had launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of his treatment, further reflecting his openness and dedication to raising awareness about his condition.
