Economy improving with collective efforts: Shehbaz

26 April, 2024 12:47

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the country’s economic situation is improving with collective efforts.

Speaking at the Cabinet meeting today, the prime minister said that our exports and remittances have increased and the economic situation is improving with the collective effort of just two months. Progress in deals with Saudi Arabia and other countries on investment are taking place at face pace.

He said that decisions have been made regarding reduction of electricity theft and transmission line. Track and trace report on cigarettes came yesterday. In 2019, a contract for track and trace system was signed and in the first phase only cigarettes and later fertilizers, sugar and sectors were included. This track and trace system was nothing but a complete fraud as the track and trace system regarding cigarette did not bear results.

The prime minister said that FBR earns billions and this money will definitely come to the national treasury. If this money is not brought to the national treasury then we have no right to govern. What would be more dishonest than that penalty clause is not included in the contract, he said, adding that he had never seen a contract like track trace system in his life.

The prime minister further said that it is a serious joke that the system was installed on two lines at the cement plant and the others were left out. A committee has been formed for the related investigation. He was of the opinion that revenue worth billions of rupee could have been earned but it was wasted.

Shehbaz said that the owners of the cement factory are good people and they told to install this system with their own money.
