Marvel’s Madame Gao Actress Wai Ching Ho Passes Away at 82

Wai Ching Ho, the acclaimed actress best known for playing Madame Gao in Marvel’s Daredevil series, has passed away at age 82, according to fellow actors who shared the news Saturday.
Ho died peacefully following a stroke two days prior, actor Perry Yung confirmed. “She was a kind, compassionate human being whose work as an artist lifted every production to a higher standard,” Yung wrote in tribute.
Actor Peter Shinkoda also shared his grief, writing: “I won’t ever forget you. I learned every minute from you when we were together on and off set. I know wisdom, I’d hang on your every word. We will meet again, my friend. You were beautiful.”
Born in Hong Kong in 1943, Ho launched her screen career in the early 1980s. Beyond her iconic Marvel role as the powerful Madame Gao appearing in Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, she appeared in numerous television series and films including Law & Order, Fresh Off the Boat, Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens, Hustlers, and Pixar’s Turning Red.
Her portrayal of Madame Gao—the mysterious criminal leader—became one of her most memorable performances, earning respect from audiences and industry colleagues alike.
Ho leaves behind a distinguished career spanning four decades and a legacy of respected artistic contributions to film and television.
