Gohar Rasheed’s Aurat March Comments Spark Social Media Backlash

Pakistani actor Gohar Rasheed’s latest view about Aurat March led him to face severe backlash for saying that the placards using in Aurat March shows ‘disrespectful’ and lacking courtesy.

Gohar Rasheed present at a Hotpod podcast along with Taimoor Akhtar, Zarrar Khan and Khaqan Shahnawaz, where the actor shared his view on the controversial signs displayed during the annual women’s rights march. He said some of the placards were “extremely hideous” and claimed that thoughts about significant sources should be conceded out with appropriate etiquettes and respect.

He said people should uphold esteem and decorum in every debate, linking it to how one should talk when speaking an elder. He further said that Aurat March emphases the central matters such as equal rights and women’s empowerment, but asked whether such an honorable source should be offered over contentious slogans.

When the host asked whether people should consider their audience when discussing such sensitive issues, Rasheed said his concern was not only about the audience. According to him, every conversation should have its own standard of conduct.

One social media user said criticizers frequently miscarry to recognize the painful experiences and stories behind Aurat March placards.

Another one pointed out that the slogan “Apna Khana Khud Garam Karo” arose in reaction to cases of violence against women, comprising an incident where a man reportedly set his wife on fire because her food was not hot enough.

Another social media user questioned why Rasheed was given a podcast platform, arguing that many controversial Aurat March slogans are based on real and disturbing cases of violence against women.

The user said these messages are linked to real incidents of women facing violence or being killed over ordinary issues and for refusing their husbands’ demands.

Another commenter compared the criticism of Aurat March slogans to asking people who have faced mistreatment for generations to remain polite while speaking about their pain. They questioned when people who have been denied their rights ever received them simply by asking politely.
