Ed Sheeran breaks silence on Macklemore’s removal from US tour

British singer Ed Sheeran break his silence on the decision to remove rapper Macklemore from his US concerts in the prolonged written post on his social media handle which described that the decision came from the organizer and venues, while he was not the one who made the final call.

Sheeran took his Instagram and posted a lengthy statement in which he clarified that he spent the week trying to resolve the matter after some venues against Macklemore performing. Sheeran said he held talks with venue owners, including Robert Kraft, but his struggles did not change their attitude.

Several venues reportedly complained to Macklemore’s involvement said they would not hold the concerts if he remained on the lineup. Macklemore had been listed to appear at eight of Sheeran’s 10 upcoming US tour.

The controversy followed Macklemore’s performances at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey earlier this month. During one show, he said “Free Palestine,” expressed support for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, and performed his protest song “Hind’s Hall.”

Soon after, Robert Kraft confirmed that Macklemore would not take the stage at Gillette Stadium, and said the verdict came after concerns over Macklemore’s recent actions, material shown during the New Jersey shows and what he described as a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery.

Sheeran explained that while he respects Macklemore’s views, but he should prefers not to involve his own professional platform in political matters and said he aims to keep his concerts inclusive and create a space where people can unite.

“I have spent this week trying to build bridges,” Sheeran wrote, adding that he was unable to find a way forward despite all his efforts.

Sheeran explained that he also had a responsibility toward his fans, touring crew and other musicians who depend on the tour for their work.

Sheeran’s North American tour is set to continue until November.
