Pakistan Considers Stricter Social Media Rules to Curb Indecent Content

Federal government of Pakistan is considering severe rules for social media to regulate indecent content, especially content being created in the name of family vlogging.

As per reports, the Interior Minister is set to consult pertinent stakeholders before taking a final decision on the proposed changes. The decision is being considered amid rising concerns over cases of child exploitation and inappropriate material on social media platforms.

Officials are also in view of presenting an age limit for social media users. Some plans are reportedly being go over to report content that may be unsafe or inappropriate, particularly when children are involved in family vlogging.

Another proposal under consideration is restricting access to certain social media platforms. Authorities may observe processes implemented by other countries and consider whether similar steps could be introduced in Pakistan.

A summit is likely to be held at the Interior Ministry to discuss the planned measures and pursue input from related sections and stakeholders before final decisions are made.

Officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and federal and provincial police authorities are expected to attend the meeting.

The meeting will also review cases involving child exploitation and indecent social media content. Officials are expected to examine social media policies introduced in different countries, including Australia, as part of the consultation process.

The proposed measures reflect growing concerns over the type of content being shared online and the need to protect children from exploitation and inappropriate material on social media platforms.
