Islamabad sessions court issues non-bailable arrest warrant for Imran khan

An Islamabad sessions court hearing the Toshakhana case against PTI chief Imran Khan has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for him over persistent absences.Imran Khan however,has recieved bail in the case of prohibited funding and ECP protests case.

Imran khan was due to appear at Islamabad court before 3:15 pm in the Toshakhana case, the court issued the warrant upon his failure to appear.

Imran was set to be indicted in the Toshakhana case today, but his lawyer requested the court that he be exempted from the hearing today because he had to appear in several other courts. His indictment was deferred twice before.

Prohibited funding

Imran Khan appeared before a court in the prohibited funding case filed by the state through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), in which he has recieved bail. The petition was filed by the FIA’s Corporate Banking Circle in which suspects were alleged to be violating the Foreign Exchange Act.

The FIR read that PTI had an account in a private bank abroad and the manager of the bank has also been included in the case. The FIR mentioned that the bank account was created in the name of “Naya Pakistan”.

ECP protests case

ATC Judge Raja Jawad Abbas approved Imran’s interim bail until March 9 in a case about violent protests outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The terrorism case was filed against Imran in Oct 2022 at Islamabad’s Sangjani Police Station after PTI workers took to the streets and held demonstrations outside ECP offices across the country after it disqualified the former prime minister in the Toshakhana reference.

The Islamabad police had registered terror cases against PTI leaders, including Khan, after the party workers took to the streets and vandalised state property following his disqualification in the Toshakhana reference.
