Ministries tasked with fulfilling IMF goals: Tarar

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the ministries tasks to fulfill goals of the IMF, says a federal minister.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore today, Attaullah Tarar said that the federal Cabinet meeting was held yesterday under the chairmanship of the prime minister, in which short-term, medium-term and long-term goals had been given to each ministry.

He further said that the prime minister assigned tasks to the ministries according to the goals. Realistic goals have been given to each ministry and the performance of the ministries will be tested through technology. He said that progress will be sought from the ministries during the cabinet meeting.

The federal minister added that the prime minister had given the ministries tasks to fulfill the IMF targets. The finance ministry has been given the target to reduce inflation, debt restructuring and digitization of the FBR.

Tarar said that the Ministry of Interior has been given a target to crackdown on illegal weapons, while the Ministry of Commerce has been tasked with to reduce trade deficit and prevent smuggling. Apart from this, targets have also been set regarding illegal foreign nationals in Pakistan.

The federal information minister said that targets had also been given regarding trade agreements with friendly countries.

The Ministry of Commerce has been given a target to approve the National Industrial Policy in the Cabinet by April 30, the minister concluded.
