Pakistan rejects US human rights report

26 April, 2024 09:25

Pakistan has rejected the human rights report issued by the US State Department.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office has said that the contents of the report are unfair, based on wrong information and completely out of touch with ground realities. There are also flaws in the way these reports are compiled, she said.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch says that the report ignores the serious violations of human rights in Gaza and Occupied Kashmir. There is a need to demonstrate objectivity, impartiality and responsibility in finalizing such reports, she added.

The statement issued by the Foreign Office further said that Pakistan is determined to strengthen the human rights framework and promote the international human rights agenda.

She further cleared that these reports use a domestic social lens to judge human rights in other countries in a politically biased manner. This year’s report is once again conspicuous by its lack of objectivity and politicisation of the international human rights agenda, she added.

We expect from the US State Department to exercise at least due diligence when reviewing complex issues, she concluded.
