Fazlur Rehman contacts Nawaz and Zardari on latest developments.

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman heads Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

He contacted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari today.

They discussed political situation arising after Chairman Senate election.

Moreover, they also discussed upcoming opposition’s long march.

The bigwigs of three major member parties of the PDM agreed to approach relevant forums against election of top slots of the upper house of the parliament.

Reelection of Sadiq Sanjrani as chairman Senate upset the bigwigs of the PDM.

The PTI government’s candidate for the Senate chairman election, Sadiq Sanjrani, defeated joint opposition’s candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani.

Sanjrani secured 48 votes, while Gillani got 42 votes.

Eight of the 98 votes in total stood rejected, including one that had a stamp on both names.

Earlier, the Senate session began at 10am with oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected lawmakers.

The process of voting completed shortly before 5pm, after which the counting began.

Senate Secretariat officials held the election.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan felicitated Sanjrani and Afridi.

He underlined giving two top slots of the Senate to Balochistan and erstwhile FATA in line with his policy to bring those parts of the country into mainstream.

In a tweet today, he felicitated the Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and Deputy Chairman Mirza Muhammad Afridi.

Moreover, the PM recalled Balochistan and former FATA marginalized or left behind in the past.
