Pakistan elected non-permanent UNSC member

Following months of campaigning, Pakistan has was elected, with a massive majority, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
The South Asian country pledged to make its contribution in meeting the challenges being faced by the world.
Pakistan bagged 182 votes in the 193-member General Assembly.
President Dennis Francis announced the winners Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Panama and Somalia –to replace Japan, Ecuador, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland. Francis congratulated these countries on their win.
Islamabad will replace Tokyo that currently occupies the Asian seat, on January 1, 2025. Each winning country will have a two-year term.
Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN Munir Akram, speaking on the occasion, said the country’s election “represents the confidence of the international community in Islamabad’s ability to encourage the purposes and principles of the UN Charter”.
Akram added that Pakistan will actively work with other member countries of the Council to advance the shared objectives.
