Political Background and Recent Activities
Khawaja Saad Rafique is a seasoned leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He was born on November 4, 1962, in Lahore and holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from Punjab University.
He has held many important government positions, including:
Minister for Culture & Youth Affairs in 2008
Federal Minister for Railways during various PML-N governments, most recently from April 2022 to August 2023
He is known for his strong stance in pro-democracy movements and has been vocal about judicial independence. He was also jailed during the Musharraf era for demanding the reinstatement of deposed judges.
Coming from a political family, his father Khawaja Muhammad Rafique was also a well-known political figure, assassinated in 1972.
