Sugar Prices Set to Increase in Four Phases Ahead of November
The federal government has decided to gradually raise the price of sugar to Rs. 171 per kilogram before the new crushing season begins on November 7, according to sources in the Ministry of Industries and Production.
Under the plan, the price of sugar will increase in four stages starting from August 15 until November 15. The rate will rise by Rs. 2 every two weeks, moving from the current Rs. 165 to Rs. 171 per kilogram by October 15.
The Ministry of Food Security has instructed provincial governments to closely monitor sugar prices and take strict action against any sellers charging above the officially notified rates.
Sources also confirmed that sugar carries a tax burden of Rs. 27.50 per kilogram. Officials stressed that no further price hikes will be permitted after October 15, with the crushing season scheduled to begin on November 7.
