PTCL restores internet services after submarine cable repair
The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) announced on Wednesday that internet services across the country have been fully restored after the repair of a faulty repeater in one of its submarine cables.
According to PTCL, an international cable consortium completed the repair work, which had caused slow internet speed and connectivity issues in parts of upper Punjab and Islamabad.
Earlier, PTCL had informed users that internet disruptions were expected due to both law and order issues and planned maintenance work on the affected cable.
PTCL spokesperson Aamir Pasha said the repair started at 11 am on October 14 and was completed successfully, restoring full internet speed and stability nationwide.
The company operates three submarine fibre-optic cable networks, which help connect Pakistan to the global internet. Out of the six submarine systems linking Pakistan internationally, three are managed by PTCL, two by Transworld Associates, and one by Cyber Internet Services through the PEACE cable.
These systems together provide a total capacity of 13 terabits per second, while Pakistan’s average national usage is around 7 to 8 terabits per second.
