Pakistan, Afghan Taliban Set for Crucial Talks on Terrorism
Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban are scheduled to hold important talks tomorrow in Türkiye, focusing on the growing threat of terrorism emanating from Afghan territory. The meeting, which is part of the ongoing Doha peace process, aims to address Pakistan’s security concerns and work towards regional peace.
Tahir Hussain Andarabi, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office, confirmed the development during the weekly press briefing. He emphasized that the talks are crucial for ensuring Afghanistan’s commitments to the international community are upheld. Pakistan expects the Taliban to honor their promises made during the Doha peace process and act responsibly in maintaining peace and stability within Afghanistan.
Andarabi reiterated that instability in Afghanistan has direct repercussions on regional security and economic development, and Pakistan continues to advocate for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
During the briefing, Andarabi also condemned Israel’s attempts to annex parts of the occupied West Bank, calling it a clear violation of international law. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and statehood.
Andarabi highlighted the recent advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which once again held Israel accountable, directing it not to obstruct humanitarian aid to Gaza. This marks the ICJ’s fourth ruling against Israel since January 2024. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and several Muslim countries also issued a joint statement supporting Palestine and rejecting Israel’s illegal actions.
On the diplomatic front, Andarabi shared that Poland’s foreign minister recently visited Pakistan for a two-day trip. Both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, education, and technology, and signed several memorandums of understanding (MOUs).
Additionally, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, engaged in high-level talks this week with the foreign ministers of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco to enhance regional cooperation and economic ties.
