The last supermoon of 2025 will brighten Pakistan’s sky on the nights of December 4 and 5, Suparco announced on Thursday. This supermoon is called the Cold Moon.
What Makes It a Supermoon?
A supermoon happens when the full Moon comes close to Earth during its orbit. This point is called perigee. Because of this, the Moon looks a little bigger and brighter than usual.
Peak Brightness Details
This Cold Moon is the third supermoon of the year and also the final one for 2025.
-
Peak illumination of 99.8% will happen at 4:15am PST on December 5.
-
In Pakistan, a 99.2% illuminated Moon will rise at 4:58pm PST on December 4.
People across the country will be able to enjoy the supermoon throughout the night of December 4–5.
How Big and Bright Will It Look?
This supermoon will be slightly less bright than November’s.
-
On November 5, the Moon was 356,978 km from Earth.
-
On December 4–5, the distance will be 357,218 km.
Even with this difference, the Moon will appear about 7.9% larger and 15% brighter than a normal full Moon.
A Natural Event Everyone Can Watch
Supermoons occur three to four times a year. While the change in size is small, it is still a beautiful sight.
Suparco has invited the public, students, and astronomy lovers to watch the event. No telescope or special device is needed. The supermoon will be clearly visible to the naked eye, as long as the weather stays clear.
