Akhtar Mengal’s NA Resignation Finally Accepted, ECP Notified
ISLAMABAD — More than a year after Sardar Akhtar Mengal, the leader of the Balochistan National Party-M, first tendered his resignation, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has formally accepted it.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been notified by the Speaker’s office of the acceptance, opening the door for the start of the by-election preparations.
Mengal resigned from his position as a member of the National Assembly in September 2024, citing the province’s “worsening situation.”
Mengal had declared his resignation during the NA session, stating that he had no faith in the government, the president, or the prime minister and that he had made this choice after seeing the situation in Balochistan.
The politician expressed regret that he was unable to help the province’s citizens, stating that they had not been granted the authority to govern for a year and that he lacked faith in the entire system.
“People are not interested in the issues of Balochistan and every time this issue is raised, we face a blackout,” he stated. “This assembly does not listen to us, what’s the point of sitting here?”
Mengal has stated that his conscience makes the choice. When all the roads leading to Parliament House were closed, he wondered where they would go. Mengal, who was elected from NA-256, stated that he was forced to take this action because to the current circumstances in Balochistan.
