Islamabad Launches Fully Paperless Driving License System to Streamline Citizen Services
The Islamabad Traffic Police has officially introduced a fully paperless driving license system, marking a significant step toward digital governance and improved public service delivery in the capital.
The initiative was inaugurated by Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who also inspected the newly established digital counters and issued directives for the system’s smooth implementation.
According to officials, the move is designed to enhance efficiency and reduce delays faced by citizens. Previously, applicants had to submit multiple documents, including medical certificates and photographs, as part of the licensing process.
With the new system in place, applicants are no longer required to bring physical documents, photocopies, or photos. The entire procedure—from medical evaluation to the issuance of the license—has now been fully digitized. The IG stated, “Now citizens only bring their computerized national identity cards with them and obtain their licenses.”
Authorities also revealed plans to digitize the license fee payment system in the near future, further simplifying the process.
In a related development, the Sindh government has introduced reforms to improve driving standards. Earlier this year, officials made pre-license driving training mandatory for individuals applying for licenses.
The decision was approved during the 50th meeting of the Public-Private Partnership Policy Board, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. Several projects across education, transport, and tourism sectors were also endorsed.
As part of efforts to enhance road safety and professional driving skills, authorities approved the establishment of Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) and Light Transport Vehicle (LTV) driver training schools under a public-private partnership framework.
Under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2025, applicants for HTV and LTV licenses must now complete certified pre-license training from recognized institutions before their applications can be processed.
