Maryam Nawaz Launches Electric Bus Service in Multan, Sets 5,000-Bus Target

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated the Green Electric Bus Service in Multan, announcing that electric buses will operate on all major routes across the city. She said the fare has been fixed at Rs20, while women, students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities will be allowed to travel free of charge. Maryam Nawaz said another 1,100 buses would arrive in Punjab in the coming weeks, with a target of introducing 5,000 electric buses across the province over the next three years.

The chief minister also highlighted several development projects in Multan and southern Punjab, including the construction of the 180-kilometer Multan-Wahari Road and the establishment of a cancer hospital in Multan. She said a second advanced cancer-treatment machine had been provided to the city and that the government planned to distribute 100,000 electric bikes to students this year, with around 300,000 applications already received. She also cited progress under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing scheme, the construction of 300 Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence and the provision of medicines to more than one million people at their doorsteps.

Maryam Nawaz also spoke about law and order, inflation, clean water and other public-service initiatives, saying every resident of Punjab was the government’s responsibility. Addressing criticism of her administration, she said her government was focused on development and would not allow corruption by officials. She also defended the use of the Punjab government’s official aircraft, saying she had personally paid nearly Rs270 million for its use and that she had previously traveled on commercial flights before becoming chief minister.
