Pakistan, China Launch Boundary Joint Commission in Islamabad

Islamabad: The inaugural meeting of the Pakistan-China Boundary Joint Commission (BJC) was held in Islamabad on September 16-17, 2026, marking the formal launch of the commission under the 2013 China-Pakistan Agreement on Boundary Management System.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Director General (China) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bilal Mahmood Chaudhary, while the Chinese delegation was headed by Li Ya, Deputy Director General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Senior representatives from various ministries and departments of both countries attended the meeting, including officials from the foreign affairs, defence, interior, commerce and communications ministries, as well as customs, survey and other relevant border management authorities.

Both sides described the establishment of the Boundary Joint Commission as an important milestone in further strengthening the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

The discussions covered a wide range of issues related to border management and cooperation, including cross-border coordination, the movement of goods and people, joint border surveys and people-to-people linkages.

The meeting concluded with the signing of the minutes, reaffirming the mutual understanding reached by both sides and establishing a framework for future cooperation under the commission.

Pakistan and China also agreed to hold the next meeting of the Boundary Joint Commission in China on mutually convenient dates.
