Pakistan-Saudi Defence Agreement Aims to Counter Common Threats: DG ISPR

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that Pakistani troops have been stationed in Saudi Arabia for decades and that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share longstanding defence ties.

In an interview with CNN, he said the defence agreement between the two countries was not a newly formed alliance. He explained that Pakistani troops serving under the Makkah Defence Agreement belong to different military domains.

He stressed that defending Saudi Arabia was a key objective of the agreement and that Pakistan would fulfil its commitment.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said the agreement aimed to build a joint capability to counter potential threats. He added that new security challenges had emerged in the region in recent years.

Under the agreement, an attack on one country would be considered an attack on both, he said. This arrangement would make those with hostile intentions think carefully before taking any action.

He also clarified that the agreement was not intended to label any country as an enemy or a friend. Its main purpose was to defend Saudi Arabia and respond to potential threats.

Pakistan Wants Peaceful Resolution of US-Iran Conflict

Speaking about the conflict between the United States and Iran, the DG ISPR said efforts were continuing to end the war.

He said Pakistan wanted to reduce differences and achieve a peaceful solution through dialogue. Pakistan did not want the conflict to escalate further, he added.

He said Pakistan had played a neutral role in efforts to secure a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stressed that Pakistan’s interests were closely linked to peace and stability in the region.

He added that Pakistan had conveyed to all partners and friends that war benefits no one.
