Fazlur Rehman advises PM Shehbaz against emergency or Governor’s Rule in KP

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the country’s political situation, developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) long march, according to sources.
During the conversation, Maulana Fazlur Rehman advised the prime minister to resolve political differences through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the JUI-F chief’s political services and conciliatory approach, saying his role in promoting political reconciliation was commendable, the sources said.
The prime minister said the government had made every possible effort to resolve political disputes through negotiations. He also stressed the need for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the opposition to take the situation seriously.
According to the sources, Shehbaz Sharif conveyed through Maulana Fazlur Rehman that the federal government was prepared to pursue negotiations and a political settlement. However, he urged the opposition to avoid confrontation with the federation and refrain from actions that could further escalate tensions.
The prime minister said long marches and pressure tactics would not resolve political disputes and could instead aggravate the situation.
He also highlighted the federal government’s efforts to stabilise the economy, stressing that political stability was essential for the country’s progress.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed hope that the opposition would engage seriously in dialogue, saying constructive engagement could help both sides make progress on outstanding issues.
