President Alvi asks PRMRA head to discourage fake news culture.

While talking to Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, Muhammad Saleem Baig, President Dr Arif Alvi expressed these views.

The PEMRA chairman called on him in Islamabad today.

The President said that the culture of fake news created chaos in the society and misled the people.

He further said the media needed to play its role in promoting ethical and moral values and avoid spreading false information.

He urged PEMRA to improve standards of information, education and entertainment though optimizing the free flow of information.

The President said the society is facing the challenge of false news; therefore, he underlined it as the responsibility of the concerned stakeholders to avoid disseminating fake news.

Moreover, he said spreading false news is against the spirit of Islam.

Hence, he noted it as the moral obligation of editorial boards of media houses as well as Ulema to play their role in guiding and educating the people to overcome the challenge of false news.

Meanwhile, the Chairman PEMRA presented the Annual Report 2019-2020 to the President.

He also briefed him about the role of his organization in facilitating and promoting free and independent electronic media.
