Senate elects its 6 new members today

The by-election for the six Senate seats fell vacant after the election of members to the National and provincial assemblies is being held today. Currently, polling started at 9am is underway and will continue till 4 pm.

Elections are being held on one vacant seat of Islamabad, two of Sindh and three of Balochistan. The voting process is underway in the National Assembly, Sindh and Balochistan assemblies.

The members of the three houses are exercising their right to vote for the election of new Senate members on six seats.

On the seat of Islamabad, there is a contest between Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Chaudhry Ilyas Mehrban and PPP’s Yousuf Raza Gilani.

In the Senate by-election in Sindh, PPP’s Jam Saifullah Khan and Muhammad Aslam Abro, while Sunni Ittehad Council’s Nazirullah and Shazia Sohail are candidates.

There will be a contest among nine candidates for the by-elections on three Senate seats from Balochistan.

It is to be mentioned here six Senate seats fell vacant after the resignation of Yousuf Raza Gilani, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Hyderi, Nisar Khuhro, Jam Mehtab, Prince Ahmad Umar and Sarfaraz Bagti.
