Xiaomi mobile prices to increase in Pakistan? Find out why

24 October, 2025 16:49

Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi is facing higher production costs as global prices of memory chips continue to rise — a situation that could soon impact smartphone prices in Pakistan.

The problem comes from a worldwide shortage of NAND and Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) chips, which are essential parts used in phones, laptops, and servers.

Demand has increased sharply as artificial intelligence (AI) companies prepare for next-generation technology, reducing supply for regular consumer electronics.

According to Reuters, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing said: “The rising costs of memory chips are far exceeding expectations in the market and are likely to accelerate.”

He explained that the company has been forced to raise prices for its new Redmi K90 series, launched this week in China. The base model now starts at 2,599 yuan ($364) — higher than last year’s K80.

Weibing acknowledged that the price hike might disappoint some customers but announced a temporary 300 yuan discount on the most popular K90 model during the launch month.

For Pakistani buyers, this could signal a possible increase in Xiaomi smartphone prices, as the global rise in chip costs eventually affects local distributors.

Since Xiaomi is a major player in Pakistan’s mid-range and budget smartphone market, any price increase could have a noticeable effect on its overall sales and demand in the country.
