Facebook will charge users for sharing links - check details
Facebook is changing the way users can share links. After allowing unlimited links for years, the platform will now charge users for adding even a single link in their posts.
Under this new system, currently being tested, users can only share two links per month in organic posts unless they subscribe to Meta Verified.
The link-sharing limits began on December 16 for selected users in the US and the UK, who received notifications about the new policy. Subscription costs vary: businesses pay between $14.99 and $499 per month, while individual users pay £9.99 per month.
Meta said profiles without Meta Verified will face this restriction. Subscribing gives users more link-sharing options, a verified badge, and extra brand protection benefits. The company added that this is a limited test to evaluate the value of link-sharing for subscribers.
Social media analyst Matt Navarra said this move is part of Meta’s broader monetisation strategy. He noted that businesses relying on Facebook for growth will now need to consider the cost of link access.
The test does not currently affect publisher Pages, but it has raised concerns among creators, marketers, and media outlets. Since external link posts are already seeing lower reach, Meta expects minimal impact from these restrictions.
