Wynne Evans set to clear his name amid strictly scandal with shocking new evidence

16 April, 2025 15:21

Wynne Evans, the well-known Welsh opera star and face of the GoCompare adverts, may be on the brink of redemption following a scandal that saw him axed from Strictly Come Dancing’s live tour. Evans came under fire after a video surfaced last year, allegedly showing him make a crude remark about pro dancer Janette Manrara. The backlash led to his removal from the show and a step back from his BBC radio role.

However, sources now claim a full-length version of the clip has emerged—and it could change everything. The footage was reportedly sent to cyber forensics experts, who identified a previously unheard phrase: “old spitroast boy,” allegedly directed not at Janette, but at EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “It may seem like semantics, but the ‘old’ and the ‘boy’ proves he was addressing Jamie and NOT making a crude sexual remark about Janette, as originally thought.” The comment is said to reference a backstage joke about Jamie’s flexibility.

Janette Manrara has reportedly contacted Evans, reassuring him that he doesn’t need to worry about her. Meanwhile, Katya Jones, Evans’ dance partner, defended him in an interview, calling him “incredible.”

Despite the backlash, which included a reported loss of his GoCompare deal, Wynne Evans has vowed to fight on. “Truth wins,” he said, and is allegedly seeking legal recompense for the damage caused.

The BBC is expected to make a final decision on his future later this month.
