Brake Failure Alert: Ford Recalls 120K+ Vehicles – Check Your Model Now

Ford Recalls Over 120,000 Cars in US Over Brake Problems
Ford Motor Company has issued two major safety recalls affecting more than 148,000 vehicles in the United States, following investigations by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recalls address critical safety concerns involving brake system failures and potential engine stalling that could compromise driver safety.
The larger recall affects 123,611 vehicles across Ford’s popular 2017-2018 F-150 pickup trucks, Expedition SUVs, and Lincoln Navigator models. According to NHTSA documents, these vehicles may experience dangerous brake fluid leaks from the master cylinder into the brake booster, which could gradually reduce braking effectiveness. “This progressive loss of brake fluid could lead to longer stopping distances and increase crash risk,” stated an NHTSA safety engineer familiar with the investigation. The recall comes after Ford’s internal testing identified the defect pattern in certain production batches.
A separate recall involves 24,655 recently manufactured 2025 Ford Explorer SUVs that may experience sudden powertrain control module resets while driving. This electronic glitch could cause unexpected engine stalling or damage to the parking system, potentially leaving drivers stranded in dangerous situations. Automotive technology experts note that such PCM issues have become increasingly concerning as vehicles rely more on complex electronic systems.
Ford has established a comprehensive repair program to address both safety issues at no cost to consumers. For the brake system recall, certified technicians will replace defective master cylinders, while Explorer owners will receive critical PCM software updates. The company plans to begin notifying affected F-150, Expedition and Navigator owners by mail starting June 24, with Explorer notifications following on July 8.
Vehicle safety advocates are urging all potentially affected owners to take immediate action. “These aren’t minor inconveniences – they’re serious safety defects that require prompt attention,” emphasized Michelle Anderson of the Center for Auto Safety. Consumers can check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through Ford’s recall website or the NHTSA database to confirm if their vehicle is included. Ford has also activated its customer service network to handle inquiries and schedule repairs at local dealerships.
This recall announcement continues a trend of increased automotive safety oversight, with NHTSA reporting a 15% year-over-year increase in vehicle recalls during 2023. As the automotive industry faces growing scrutiny over electronic systems and component durability, manufacturers are under pressure to identify and address potential safety issues more proactively. Ford representatives stress that they’re committed to resolving these issues quickly, but some industry analysts question whether recent production quality controls need strengthening to prevent similar recalls in the future.
