Stockport 'murder': 'Adored' woman, 93, found dead in house pictured
A murder investigation is underway after 93-year-old Judith “Judy” Zussman was found dead in her home on Altrincham Road Wednesday morning, sparking an outpouring of grief from her devastated family and community.
Judy was the widow of renowned mineralogist Professor Jack Zussman, who passed away in August 2023 at age 100. The couple met in 1959 when Judy worked as a nursing sister at Manchester Royal Infirmary. Married for over six decades, they were active members of Menorah Synagogue in Sharston since 1975.
A poignant photo from last summer shows the couple celebrating Jack’s 100th birthday—a testament to their enduring bond.
Greater Manchester Police have cordoned off the property as forensic teams investigate. Neighbors described Judy as a “kind, gentle presence,” with one adding, “She was the heart of this street.”
In a tribute, Judy’s family said: “Judy was a devoted wife to Jack, and an adored sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. We’re grateful for the support but ask for privacy as we grieve.”
Authorities have not disclosed a motive but confirmed the suspect is undergoing mental health assessment. Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
